Melt Flow Index Testing Machine

Melt Flow Index Tester

Applicable Standards
  • ISO 1133, ASTM D1238

Melt flow index testing machines, also known as extrusion plastometers, test how much molten plastic or resin passes through a standard opening at a set temperature and load. Inside the heated barrel, a piston pushes the molten plastic through a die with a standard-sized opening. The plastic collected from the die is weighed, and its mass and the collection time are used to calculate the melt mass-flow rate (MFR) in grams per 10 minutes (g/10 min). These melt flow index testers can test PE, PS, PP, ABS, POM, polycarbonate (PC), polysulfone, nylon, and melt-processable fluoroplastics when fitted for the required test conditions. Melt flow index testers are widely used in plastics production, petrochemical laboratories, universities, and research and inspection centers to check how consistently plastic materials flow under the same test conditions.
